CHEF RESIDENCY: OIL & LA TROPIKITCHEN

The first chef residency is taking place this Valentine’s Day weekend, on February 15TH with the culinary team from Oil, a concept store with an integrated boutique and restaurant in Tokyo, Japan. Celebrating art and design, Oil caters to Tokyo’s fashion crème de la crème. The team consists of Chef Ariel Millaman and Creative Director Moeko Tamakawa.
Millaman, a Chilean pastry chef, is known for his innovative, nature-inspired desserts. He trained under Gustavo Sáez (Best Pastry Chef LATAM 2016) in Chile and later became head pastry chef at Villanos en Bermudas in Bogotá, a restaurant ranked among the World’s 50 Best. In 2021, he represented Chile at the Pastry World Cup, placing 6th—a historic achievement as the first South American to do so. His career has since taken him to Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and beyond before arriving in Tokyo in 2024.
Tamakawa, founder of the creative studio "Ance," has worked with global brands like Sony and Meta, specializing in branding, visual production, and business development. In recent years, she has been part of the design team in a creative management role for the luxury hotel Azumi in Hiroshima, produced by Adrian Zecha and the Japanese hospitality group Staples, as well as restaurants in Tokyo under the supervision of Kei Kobayashi, the first Asian chef to receive three Michelin stars in Paris. Her projects include the launch of “rom” in 2021, Japan’s first bodysuit brand, and Oil, the boutique and restaurant she co-founded in 2024.
Together, they bring a unique fusion of culinary artistry and creative vision to this special residency.
